Funeral services were held on Thurs., Jan. 25, 1979 for John Brown at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, with Pastor R. D. Ehlers officiating. Organist was Mrs. Robert Evans. Pallbearers were Milton Meyer, Robert Drallmeier, Everett Huff, and Alvin Baumbach. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, military honors by the Amvets Post 27.

John Elsworth Brown, son of John Wilburn and Emma (Frye) Brown, was born in Jefferson Township, Clayton County, Iowa, February 12, 1920. He passed away January 22, 1979 at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis. at the age of 58 years, 11 months, and 10 days. He was baptized as an infant and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on March 25, 1934. His boyhood was spent on his parent's farm near Guttenberg.

On May 28, 1942 he was united in marriage to Ella Mae Noble. To this union 3 sons and 2 daughters were born: Mrs. Ronald (Judy) Benzing of Waukon; Jack Brown of Tacoma, Washington; Jerry Brown, Joel Brown and Mrs. Richard (Janette) Snitker, all of Monona. Early in his marriage he spent time in the U. S. Navy. He is survived by his wife, 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Fields of Bushnell, Illinois and Georginanna Beckett of Garnavillo, and a brother, Veryle, of Tacoma, Washington. Preceding him in death were his parents, 2 brothers and a sister.

He spent more than 25 years as a logger in this area. He was a great oursdoorsman with is work and recreation of hunting, fishing and gardening.
