Earl Francis Scheffert

Funeral services for Earl Francis Scheffert were held Saturday, July 30, 1988 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. Rev. Harold O. Ward officiated and Florence Evans was the organist. Schultz's Funeral Home in Monona was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was at Illyria Cemetery, rural Elgin.

Earl Francis Scheffert, son of Irwin and Olivia (Heitman) Scheffert, was born Dec. 23, 1912 at Garber, Iowa. He died Thursday, July 28, 1988 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville following a long illness.

He was baptized at Garber and confirmed March 15, 1936 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona by Pastor Siefkes. He attended the Luana school and graduated in 1933.

On Nov. 14, 1936 he married Eleanor Mae Guyer. The couple farmed near Elgin for 9 years. In 1946 they moved to a farm north of Monona. In 1967 they moved to Monona and Earl worked in road and building construction.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Keith; 4 brothers, Virgil, Yvo, Lionel and Irwin.

Surviving is his wife, Eleanor; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Lanny and Linda Scheffert, Monona and Jerry and Mary Scheffert, Decorah; a daughter, Julie Schutte, Prairie du Chien, WI, 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ilo Wentz, Luana and a brother, Orland Scheffert, McGregor.

Pallbearers were Lamoine Wentz, Duane Scheffert, Dave Scheffert, Ron Evanson, George Howe and Robert Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Drahn, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Marting and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Steiert.
