Lionel Joseph Scheffert
Funeral services were held in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona on Fri., Oct. 3,1978, for Mr. Lionel Scheffert with Monsignor Donald Heineman officiating at the Requiem Mass at 10:30 a.m. Mrs. Lester Fritz presided at the organ, and the adult church choir provided vocal music.
Mr. Scheffert passed away Tues. at his residence in Monona.
Lionel Joseph Scheffert was one of seven children of Irwin & Olivia Scheffert. He was born on June 30, 1918, at Garber in Clayton County, but lived most of his life in the Luana-Monona area.
On July 26, 1938, he was united in marriage with Lucretia Ellen Schofield in St. Patrick's Catholic Church and began their life together on a farm on Irish Ridge. From there they moved to a farm east of Rossville where they lived for three years. In 1942 they purchased a farm 6 miles east of Monona where he lived until Sept. of 1977.
Surviving are his four children: Arlen Lee, Cedar Rapids; Duane and Donnie of Monona; and Mrs. Don (Donna Lou) Huinker of Baraboo, Wis.; as well as eight grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister also survive: Earl of Monona, Yvo of Luana, Orland of McGregor, and Mrs. Lawrence Wentz of Luana.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Pallbearers were: Milton Voss, John Boardman, Jim Schofield, Ronald Rumph, Marlin Henderson, and Lanny Scheffert. Honorary Pallbearers were: Gaylord Oelke, Sr., Edwin Tayek, Verni Kruse, George Balekos, Sr., Ben Frese and Ernest Lenth.
Burial was in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
