Mrs. HERBERT (Esther Mabel Benzing) SCHLITTER

Funeral services for Esther Mabel Benzing Schlitter were held Monday, August 7, 1989, 2 p.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona was in charge of services.

She was born July 16, 1908, to parents Carl and Marie Schroeder Benzing, at Fairfax, MN. She was baptized Jan. 3, 1909 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Fairfax by Rev. Albrecht. In 1914 her parents moved to Williams, MN, where they homesteaded on a farm.

She received her education in Zippel, MN. She graduated from high school in Williams, MN and received her teaching certificate at the State Teachers College at Bemidjii, MN. She taught school at Bankton, MN for a number of years.

On January 20, 1932, she married Herbert Schlitter at the Pilgrim Evangelical Church in Monona. They had 2 daughters. They farmed until 1953 near Monona. In 1953 they retired and moved to Monona.

She died Friday, Aug. 4, 1989 at the Prairie du Chien, WI Memorial Hospital. She was a member of thr Royal Neighbors, Senior Citizens and Garden City United Methodist Church where she held many offices through the years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Herbert, who died Oct. 27, 1985; 2 brothers, Leonard and Walter Benzing; 3 sisters, Grace Curtis, Minnie Wickum and Edna Friesner.

Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Lorna and Floyd Friedlein of McGregor and Dorothy and Lyle Connor of Clinton, IA; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one sister, Ella Benzing of Shelby, MT.

Pallbearers: Gordon Friedlein, Daniel Bott, Curtis Kruse, Stanlely Friedlein, Roger Friedlein and Alan Friedlein.

Burial was in Monona City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gordon Friedlein, Daniel Bott, Curtis Kruse, Stanley Friedlein, Roger Friedlein and Alan Friedlein.

Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of services.
