MRS. ALVIN (Selma Caroline Kregel) DETTMANN
Services were held for Selma Dettmann Saturday, March 5, 1983 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, with Pastor Harold O. Ward officiating. Burial was in Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Selma Caroline Dettmann, the daughter of Fred H. and Louise Meyer Kregel, was born on September 1, 1906 on a farm near Garnavillo. She was baptized by Pastor John Mall and confirmed April 13, 1919 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo by Pastor Clause Bosholm. She received her education in the rural school in Garnavillo Township and graduated from the Garnavillo Public School.
On September 17, 1924 she was united in marriage to Alvin Dettmann at Garnavillo in her parents' home by Pastor Clause Meyn. To this union three children were born.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona and held various offices in the Ladies Aid. She died Thursday, March 3, 1983 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville having reached the age of 76 years, 6 months and 2 days.
Preceeding her in death were her parents, three sisters, Mrs. Victor (Amanda) Meyer, Alvina and Alma, three brothers, Edward, Herman and a brother who died in infancy.
Surviving is her husband, Alvin, two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Jeanne) Collins, McGregor, Mrs. Carlton (Joyce) Collins, Postville and one son Julius Dettmann, Monona, four grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
