MR. & MRS. HARVEY ELMER (Celia Louise Duwe) ENGELHARDT
Celia Louise Engelhardt died Tuesday, July 2 at the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville. Her husband, Harvey Elmer, died there the following day.
Joint services were conducted Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona, by Pastor Harold Ward and Pastor Julius Peterson. Pallbearers were Kenneth Schroeder, Wayne Schroeder, Carlyle Kirkeberg, Wayne Engelhardt, Kenneth Duwe and Allen Engelhardt. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona was in charge of the services.
Celia Louise (Duwe) Engelhardt was born on May 26, 1909 in Clayton County. She was the daughter of Joe and Elizabeth (Bareis) Duwe. On July 2, 1909 she was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Postville and confirmed on Sept. 2, 1923, also at St. Paul's.
She received her education in the rural schools. Feb. 21, 1934 she married Harvey Engelhardt. They farmed near Luana for 32 years. On March 1, 1966 they retired to their home in Monona.
He was born Oct. 21, 1908 at St. Olaf, the son of John and Reka (Draves) Engelhardt. He was baptized Nov. 22, 1908 at Farmersburg and confirmed Sept. 10, 1922 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona by Rev. A. Daugs.
He was educated at the St. Olaf and Monona schools.
Both were members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was a member of Joy Circle and he taught Sunday School for many years.
Preceding her in death were 2 brothers, Harvey and Roy. Survivors include 4 sisters, Florence Schutte of Luana, Clara Schroeder, Helen Duwe and Viola Duwe, all of Postville, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Philman and Alvin, and 2 siblings in infancy. Surviving him are nieces and nephews.
