Herman W. Schierholz
Herman Wilhelm Schierholz was born at Garnavillo, Iowa, January 7, 1849. Here he was also baptized into the name of the Triune God, and at the proper age confirmed in the Clayton Center Lutheran Church. On January 19, 1875, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Dickman.

Mr. and Mrs. Schierholz owned and operated the farm near Hardin, now known as the John Walch place. After disposing of this farm he purchased of R.M. Fonda, the farm just south of the Luana Creamery, where they made their home until coming to Monona in 1903. He has been a valuable citizen to our town. He served a number of years as a member of the town council and did much for the upbuilding of the community. He was square and upright in all his dealings and always dependable in doing what was right.

There were four children born to them who all are living and were present at the funeral: Henry F. of Guttenberg, Mrs. Roselia Wirkler of Monona, Mrs. Paulina Miller of Monona and Elzer of Luana.

On Thursday, August 22, Mr. Schierholz fell and sustained injuries which proved to be fatal. He passed away Wednesday, August 28, at 7:30 p.m., at the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 20 days. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Siefkes in the German language and interment was made in the town cemetery. He is survived by his wife, his four children, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Krumm of Postville.
