Obituary – Charles Schrank
Born in Offenau, Wertenberg, Germany Sept. 16th, 1827 died Feb. 13th 1907. Deceased was 79 years, 4 months and 23 days old at his death. He came to America Oct. 24th, 1854, when he was 28 years old settling on a farm in Clayton County, Ia. where he lived until 1902 when he moved to Dubuque to live a retired life. In 1905 he moved back on the old farm again. The deceased was married to Rosa Moser Feb. 17th, 1857, who still survives him. To them were born twelve children, six sons and six daughters of whom nine survive deceased. They are Gust. at home, Fred at Bagley, Wis., William at Osterdock, Mrs. Will Marold at Dyersville, Mrs. D. D. McGrath at Dubuque, Joseph at LaCrosse, Wis., John at Wood, Ia., Mrs. Will Cairl, Dubuque and Mrs. John Strader, Colesburg. He also leaves to mourn his death, one brother and three sisters, Francis of Mapleton, Ia., Mrs. August Stabler, New Vienna, Mrs. Joe Shrank of Osterdock and Mrs. E. Wiershiny of Mankato, Minn. Deceased enjoyed good health until a short time ago when he complained of not feeling good he went to Dubuque to take treatment but kept failing gradually until his death occurred on Wednesday evening Feb. 13th at 8:15 when he passed peacefully away. He was brought to Guttenberg Saturday, the 16th, for burial, funeral services being held at St. Mary’s Church by Rev. Brinkman at 11 o’clock. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery.
Deceased was a devoted member of the Catholic church all through life. He took great pride in bringing up his family in the Catholic church. If deceased had lived until Feb. 17th or three days longer, he would have celebrated his golden wedding for which he had made arrangements.
