A Good Man Called by Death
On Sunday evening, January 2, 1916 at ten o'clock, at his home in Guttenberg. Bernard John Leliefeld was called by death, after a few days illness of pneumonia, at the age of 43. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 28, 1872, and in the year 1894 he moved to Guttenberg, where he lived to his death. He was married to Miss Stoeffler, who preceded him in death a number of years ago. On October 28, 1895, he was married again to Miss Lucy Pelzer. Mr. Leliefeld was an ambitious man and worthy man during his entire life, he was a man who was always ready with heart and hand to do kind acts for others, which won him many friends during his life, and by whom he was held in high regard. He was a kind and true husband, father, brother, neighbor, and friend. All was done for him, which could be done, to ward off death, but all failed. His untimely death is deeply mourned by his wife, three sons, Daniel, Albert, and Cyril, five daughters, Leona, Clarissa, Lucille, Alma, and Olive, all at home, three brothers, two sisters, and a large number of relatives, and friends, by whom he will be sadly missed. He was a member of the St. Clemens and Sacred Heart Societies. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in this city Wednesday morning, January 5, 1916, at nine o'clock, Rev. J. H. Brinkman officiating. Interment was made at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near, which showed that the deceased was held in high regard by all who knew him, and in his death family loses a kind loving husband, father and this community a good citizen. The family has sympathy of all in this community.
