Anthony Moser was born in Basel, Switzerland, April 5, 1832, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.F. Sullivan, in Merriman, Neb., Sunday, October, 8, 1922, at the age of 89 years and 6 months. He came to the United States when 14 years of age first settling in St. Louis, Mo., and then in Guttenberg, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Sereda Barrett, June 15, 1861, and to this union eight children were born, four boys and four girls, Mrs. Helena Nicol, Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Sarah Way, Los Angeles, Ca., Mrs. Winnie Lyons, Laurann, Alta., Can., Mrs. Clara Sullivan of Merriman, Neb., and Ambrose, Joseph and Freeman Moser, all of Spokane, Wash. One son, Willis, died at Waterloo, Iowa, July 15, 1914 at the age of 47.
The deceased was called to the Union army August 25, 1862 serving with Co. C. 2nd Battalion, 16th U. S. Inf., and was honorably discharged at Lookout Mountain, Tenn., August 25, 1865 serving three years to the day. While in the service, he was a prisoner in Libby and Anderson prisons for seven months and sixteen days.
Besides his children he leaves one brother, Lucas, age 92, of Spring Dale, Wash., to mourn their loss. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Beard of the M.E. Church, and burial was made in the Merriman cemetery.
