Death Comes As Release From Earthly Suffering

Blanche J. Beddow, wife of John H. Hamlett was born at Elkport, Ia., January 12, 1886, and died at Edgewood, Iowa on Monday afternoon, March 7, 1938 at the age of 52 years, one month and 26 days.

Mrs. Hamlett in her early youth had aquired those requisites of character and womanhood that have made her beloved by all who knew her. She was modest and unassuming as she mingled among neighbors and friends. Her sense of humor and quietness always demanded the respect and dignity on the part of those who chanced to come in contact with her. She was beautiful in her attitude toward life and life's problems, scattering the sunshine of cheer, hope and good will in a world that needs the gloom of life removed and the sunshine brought in. She was sweet in her attitude toward home life; here she brought forth those finer attributes of motherhood that have made her outstanding as a wife and mother. To know her was to love her for her genuine character, her noble ideals and high aspiration which she instilled into the life of her daughter and son so that they rise up today and call her blessed. She loved her home and family and tried in every way to prove herself a loving wife to her husband and a good mother to her children.

Mrs. Hamlett had enjoyed good health nearly all her life, but in the month of August she showed signs that her health was not what it might be. She was taken to Iowa City, where she underwent an operation, but all effort on the part of the medical skill was unavailing to stop the grim messenger of death. She was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Nona, who spared no effort and sacrifice to make life pleasant, to eliminate suffering and pain from her mother. Nona sometimes mounted to heights of the heroic in her devotion and tender care of her mother.

Blanche J. Beddow, daughter of Charles and Eva Beddow, was married to John H. Hamlett, March 15, 1905, and to this happy union was born one daughter, Nona B. and one son, Lee V.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, the daughter and son, her aged parents, five brothers and three sisters: Mrs. J. T. Beatty and Clifford Beddow of Merced, California, Roy of Gladbrook, Iowa, Frank of Washington, D. C., Dewey, Bert, Mrs. F. A. Robinson and Mrs. A. D. Stone, all of Edgewood, one niece, three nephews, besides many other relatives and friends.
