Louis S. Seward Dies Suddenly, Funeral Sunday

Louis S. Seward, fourth child of Dwight and Ellen Seward, old pioneers of this community, was born September 27, 1874 in Delaware County, Iowa, and died very suddenly in the early morning hours of August 10, 1944 at the home of his sister, Mrs. A. C. Bissell, in Edgewood, Iowa. He had reached the age of 71 years, 10 months and 13 days. Most of his life was spent in this immediate community.

On October 19, 1913 he was united in marriage to Emma Hatfield and to their union eight children were born, all of whom survive. they are Dwight O., now somewhere in Africa, Mrs. Florence Hines of Edgewood, Raymond of Peoria, Ill., Gerald of Dixon, Tenn., John Henry, somewhere in Italy, Marie, now Mrs. Dale Dettbarn of Earlville, Ronald and Phillip of Portland, New York. There also survive eight grandchildren, and his two sisters, Mrs. A.C. Bissell and Mrs. Edith Foster. Many other rekatives and friends will greatly miss his joval presence among them.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, August 13, at the old family home east of town, which is now the home of his soster, Mrs. Foster. The Rev. W. B-H. O'Neill, pastor of the Congregational Church, conducted the services. Mr. and Mrs. F. I> Smith sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle" with Margaret Kirk the pianist. Beautiful flowers were tributes to his memory. the casket was attended by O. H. Berens, Paul Berens, Harold Bissell, Leslie Gibbs, Lloyd Seward and Burnell Kehrli. Burial was made in the Edgewood cemetery.
Relatives from out of town who came to attend funeral services for Louis Seward were Mrs. Dale Dettbarn, Mr. and Mrs. Dettbarn, Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs of Earlville, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Seward and two children of Peoria, Ill., Ronald Seward of Portland, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Gibbs and two children of Manchester, Mr. and Mrs. Burnell Kehrli and Judith of Coggon, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Seward of Marion.
