VERNON LESTER KURTH

Vernon Lester Kurth

Vernon Lester Kurth, son of Lester and Esther (Kliefoth) Kurth, was born Jan. 8, 1924 in Wagner Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He died at Covenant Center, Waterloo, Iowa on April 12, 1994. He was 70.

He was baptized Feb. 17, 1924, and confirmed July 3, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. He attended Center School in Wagner Township. On June 22, 1945 he married Irma Kuethe at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. To this union, three daughters were born.

Vernon farmed, worked at logging, and at the time of his retirement in 1989 was employed by Swiss Valley of Luana. His interests were the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, and gardening. He enjoyed sharing his produce with others.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Irma, who has resided at Prairie Health Care Center since 1987; three daughters, Karel (Mrs. Larry) Giese of Albany, Georgia; Rita Kurth and Marla Kurth, both of Council Bluffs; three grandchildren, Tammie (Mrs. David) Clark, Michael and Brian Guese; three sisters, Ethelyn (Mrs. Larry) Berns of Elkader, Barbara Christianson of Guttenberg, and Karen (Mrs. Jack) Wright of Farmersburg; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16, 1994 at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Rev. Bruce Hanson officiating. Pallbearers were Gene Kurth, Randy Kurth, Paul Christianson, Steven Christianson, Brett Wright, and Scott Wright. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services.
