Funeral Rites Held For Walter Kurth
Funeral services for Walter Henry Kurth, 71, were held Thursday afternoon, July 1, at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church with Rev. Paul V. Clements officiating.
Burial was in the Monona City cemetery. The body lay in state at the church from 1 o'clock in the afternoon until the time of the services.
Mr. Kurth died during Monday night, June 28, at the Postville hospital, after suffering a heart attack only a few days before his death.
He was born a son of William and Lena, nee Schroeder, Kurth in Farmersburg township, May 22, 1894. He received his education in the rural schools of Farmersburg township.
He was married to Florence Schiff, July 14, 1915, in Giard township. They went to farming in Giard township after which they lived on a farm in Wisconsin. They later purchased a farm in Franklin township, Allamakee county, where he lived the remainder of his life.
He was a member of the Volney Methodist church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four sisters, and two brothers. He was the last surviving member of his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gerald, Gilbert, and Walter, Jr., all of rural Luana; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Music at the services was provided by Mrs. Thomas James, soloist, Mrs. Ivon J. Schultz was the organist.
Pallbearers were: Lloyd Bachtel, Fred Schlitter, George Smith, Lester Fish, Elmer White, and William Powell.
