Local Soldier Dies From Wound He Received in Action
Pfc. Floyd Madlom, 25, was seriously wounded in action in Luxembourg and died in an army hospital there, according to word received Tuesday. He was slightly wounded January 4, 1945 and returned to action January 7. On January 13 he was seriously wounded and died January 22, 1945.Floyd Madlom enlisted in the army July, 1937. After training at various camps in the states, he was sent to Porto Rico. After a furlough home, he received further training and was assigned to duty with the ordinance depot in England in August, 1943. In December, 1944 he transferred to the infantry and was slightly wounded January 4, 1945. For this wound he received the Purple Heart. He returned to combat Januray 7, 1945 and was seriously wounded January 13. He died January 22, 1945.
Floyd was born November 28, 1919 and spent his early life on his stepfather's farm near Edgewood. He received his schooling in the local schools. He leaves to mourn his passing, his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Allie Barnes; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hildebrand of Colonial Park, Pa., Eva, Mrs. Francis Sauerbry, who has enlisted in the Nurses Corps of Oklahoma, and Irene Barnes at home; four brothers, Joe Madlom of Edgewood, Eugene Madlom in an army hospital in Oklahoma, George Barnes with the U. S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific, and Harvey Barnes at home.
