MRS. MARY EATON DIES AT DAUGHTER'S HOME AT AGE OF 68
Mary Jane Mullen, daughter of George W. and Belle F. Mullen, was born at Strawberry Point, Iowa, May 8, 1872. When three years old the family moved to Clay Center, Kansas, making the trip in a covered wagon. She had two sisters and three brothers, all of whom preceded her in death except one brother, Fred of Boughton, Kansas and one sister, Mrs. Susie Weber of Kansas City, Kansas.
Mary Jane Mullen was united in marriage to Abner J. Eaton on Feb. 14, 1892. they lived on their farm south of Edgewood until Mr. Eaton's death in 1935 with the exception of three years in Edgewood.
In March, 1936 she moved to Edgewood where she has made her home. During her last illness she was tenderly card for in the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. S. O'Dell near Delhi where she passed away July 22 after an illness of a few weeks. Her death was caused by strokes of paralysis. She was 68 years, two months and 14 days of age.
Besides Mrs. O'Dell she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. John Armstrong of Greeley. Three children preceded her in death, a son died in infancy, a daughter, June at the age of six years and a son, Jerry, passing away in June, 1937 at the age of 38 years. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Eaton was an active member of the Oakleaf Camp 1494, royal Neighbors of America and of Hiram Steele Woman's Relief Corps in both of which organizations she had held offices. Her death will be mourned at Farmers' Institute time as she had been one of the valued contributors to the success of the women's department for many, many years.
Mrs. Eaton was an energetic, industrious woman whose greatest interest was always her home and family. She was a kind neighbor, ever ready to help in times of need and no truer friend ever lived.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, July 24 at Platt's Funeral Home in charge of Rev. A. H. Meyer. Vocal music for the service was furnished by Mrs. F. I. Smith and Mrs. F. Ray Minkler with Miss Kirk accompanying. Burial was made in the Edgewood cemetery.
