FUNERAL SERVICES FOR J.D. RYAN HELD ON SUNDAY
Funeral services for J. D. Ryan, well known farmer of the Forestville community, were held Sunday afternoon at the home east of Forestville and at the Methodist Church in Manchester. The Rev. THos. P. Shaffer was in charge. Burial was in the receiving vault at the Manchester cemetery.Pallbearers were Floyd, Claude, Richard, Louis, Willie and Gerry Ryan. Music was provided by the Manchester mixed quartette.
"Jake" Ryan, as he was familiarly known, was born January 24, 1873, on the Ryan homestead near Manchester, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Ryan. He was married October 2?. 1893 to Blanche Hollenbeck and for 10 years they lived at Hennessey, Oklahoma. Later they returned to Iowa, locating on a farm near Dundee. During his life Mr. Ryan served as township trustee and clerk and was a director of the school district. Death came at Forestville on Wednesday evening, January 17th. He was 66 years old.
Surviving are the widow, one daughter, Mrs. Fern Hermance of Forestville, three sons, Thomas, Cecil and Dee Ryan of this vicinity, two brothers, D. W. and L. B. Ryan, both of Manchester, two sisters, Mrs. Ida Fishel of Yakima, Washington and Mrs. Edith Beyers of Manchester. There are also seven grandchildren.
