Squire Ross Laid To Rest Sunday
Squire Franklin Ross was born on December 19, 1861. He was the youngest of five children born to Robert and Elizabeth Oliver Ross on a farm in Clayton County near Elkport. In this county he grew to manhood and spent most of his life. He was engaged in paper hanging and painting as well as being an active farmer. Being unable to carry on with his farm work he retired moving to Guttenberg in December, 1938.

On Tuesday, Feb 7th he was taken ill and was confined to his bed and on February 16th he was called to his great reward, reaching the age of 77 years, one month and 28 days.
He was united in marriage to Ella Van Sickle on December 12, 1900. To this union five children were born.
Surviving are his widow, together with the following children: Myrtle of Elmhurst, Ill., Mrs. Chas. Rodas of Ekader, Mrs. Wm. Buisman of Guttenberg, Mrs. Russel Schenke of Colesburg and Robert at home. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Jennie Rulon and one half-sister, Mrs. Rose Newell of Los Angeles, Calif., besides a host of friends also will sadly miss his parting. Two sisters, one brother and a half-brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church in Edgewood Sunday afternoon by Rev. W. L. Feller. Music for the services were sung by Mrs. Esther Welterlen, Miss June Rhines, Claude Rulon and Joe Forward with Miss Jennie Forward as accompanist. Casket attendants were Hulsa Sabin, Karl Gleason, John Hamlett, Alton Brookshier, Harley Kraus and Otto Berens. Burial was made in the Edgewood cemetery.
