I am not related and have no further information, this is taken from an old scrapbook that belonged to Mrs. Clara (Jones) McCartney

George Sloan, Retired Veterinarian, Laid to Rest Here in Tuesday

Death came Sunday shortly before noon to Dr. George W. Sloan, retired veterinarian, at his home in Strawberry Point. Mr. Sloan was 83 years old Christmas Day. His death followed many years of illness. He had been an invalid the past seven years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Gill Chapel with Rev. Watson of the Community Church, Manchester, and Rev. Benson of the Congregational Church, Strawberry Point officiating. Burial was in the Strawberry Point Cemetery. Pallbearers were W. G. Smith, John Tracy, Chas. Blanchard, Check Lang, Tom Malone and Carl Buls.

George Washington Sloan was born at Fredonia, New York December 25, 1858, the son of Alfred and Sarah Sloan. He came to Iowa with his parents when 11 years of age and settled at Strawberry Point. Mr. Sloan was married to Miss Clara Blake on March 18, 1880. They lived on a farm and later moved to town in 1900. Mr. Sloan served as Constable and was a veterinarian for 35 years. His illness dates back to 1925.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Alfred B. of Sterling, Illinois and Jess P. of Manchester; three daughters, Mrs. Elsie Smith of Fayette, Mrs. J. L. Rogers of North Manchester, Indiana and Mrs. A. W. Hall of Santa Ana, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Allie Deyo of Strawberry Point, 9 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Sloan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1930 while visting their daughter in California.
