Funeral Services For Charles Thomas Held Last Friday

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist Church for Charles Butler Thomas, whose death occured Monday evening about 5:30 after an illness of about a year. The services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Pease of the Greeley Methodist Church and Rev. W. L. Feller, local pastor. Burial was made in the Edgewood cemetery. Casket attendants were the six nephews, J. M. Bishop, of Cedar Rapids, Howard Bishop of Spencer, Gordon Tibbott, Cecil Wheeler, Ben Sherman and Donald Thomas.

Charles Butler Thomas was born at the farm home of his parents, Melanthon and Winifred Thomas, southeast of Edgewood, on June 8, 1890. He became the owner of this farm and it was his home at the time of his death. Of the nine children born to his mother, only three survive, they are Alf Tibbott of near Greeley, Mrs. Mabel Wheeler of McGregor, and Mrs. Charlotte Jewel of Elkader.

Mr. Thomas was married three times. His first marriage was to Miss Esther Peick, who died during th 1918 flu epidemic. the second marriage was to Miss Alda Pilgrim who was the mother of the two sons, Charles and Garth, and one daughter, Mary Jane. Her death occured October 10, 1933 when Mary Jane was but 12 days old. On October 4, 1937 the third marriage was to Mrs.Effie Moser-Schneider. Words cannot express the wonderful care Mrs. Thomas gave to her husband during his year of illness. She has been a real mother to his sons, giving to them the loving care their own mother would have wished them to receive.
