CARL AUGUST STRIEN
Carl August Strien, 88, died Monday, Dec 18 at the Ravenwood Health Center, Waterloo.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 21, 1989 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Waterloo.
Burial services were at 3 p.m. at the Postville Cemetery.
Carl was born July 15, 1901 on a farm near Farmersburg. His parents were Charles and Alvina Radloff Strien. He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. On March 28, 1915 he was at St. John Lutheran Church. He received his education at the Farmersburg schools.
December 14, 1927 he married Verla W. Schara at Decorah. He worked on the railroad and also farmed for a number of years. In 1952 the family moved to Waterloo and Carl was employed at Construction Machinery, retiring in 1957. In 1972 he became a resident of Ravenwood Health Care Center.
He is survived by his wife, Verla, a son, Curtis of Waterloo, 3 daughters, Virginia Myhre, Decorah, Betty Mopson, Sterling, IL and Charlotte Ferris, Lancaster, WI; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alice Breitsprecher, Elkader and Marie Probert, Farmersburg.
