DONALD WILLIAM STOEFFLER

Funeral services for Donald Stoeffler were held Tuesday December 21, 1982 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church in Guttenberg. The Reverend Donald Sweeney officiated assisted by the Reverend A. A. McAvory. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville and the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home of Guttenberg were in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Guttenberg.

Donald William Stoeffler, son of Otto and Margaret (Sinnwell) Stoeffler, was born December 8, 1926 at Guttenberg, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, December 18, 1982 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.

He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Guttenberg and served two years in the Navy during WW II. On November 27, 1947 he was married to C. Ivanelle Gassmann at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg. To this union six children were born.

Don had been employed by Gilbertz Meat Market and Kuempel's Plumbing and Heating in Guttenberg. In 1969 they moved to Postville where he was employed by People's Natural Gas Company.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three sons.

Surviving besides his wife, Ivy, are three daughters, Mrs. Matt (Connie) Esser of Guttenberg, IA, Mrs. Gerald (Suzette) Bower of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Ivy, at home, three grandchildren, four brothers, Wilbert of Ft. Madison, IA, Bernard of Springville, IA, A. A. of St. Cloud, Florida and Rolland of Jacksonville, FL, and a sister, Mrs. Angelo (Armella) Sandona of Rockford, IL.

Don had been a member of the Guttenberg Fire Department for 25 years, the American Legion in Guttenberg, a Past Grand Knight of the Guttenberg Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph's Council No. 4148, and had served on the Guttenberg City Council for 8 years, a member of Brotherly Love Lodge No. 204 of Postville, Northeast Iowa Shrine Clowns, and also a member of the Postville Fire Department.
