HENRY ERNEST SCHRADER 1871-1959
Funeral services were held Sunday, 2:00 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana for Henry E. Schrader, long time resident of Luana who passed away last Wednesday night. The Rev. L. W. Reuther, pastor of St. John's, was in charge of the rites. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery in Luana.
Henry Ernest Schrader, son of August and Marie Homan Schrader, was born March 3, 1871 in Garnavillo. In infancy he was baptized in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo and was confirmed in Clayton Center.
Mr. Schrader spent the years of his youth on the home farm in Wagner township. On February 14, 1896 he was united in marriage with Miss Lena Miller. Two sons were born to this union. The couple lived for two years on a farm in Wagner township. They then bought the present Mrs. Fredene Schrader farm on which they lived for 33 years. In 1931 they moved to their home in Luana where they have lived since.
The deceased was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana, was a charter member of the Brotherhood of that church, and for many years served as deacon and for 10 years as benevolence treasurer.
Mr. Schrader suffered a slight heart attack last Wednesday night from which he did not recover. He passed away at his home on Thursday morning, February 26, 1:30 o'clock, have attained the age of 87 years, 11 months and 23 days.
He is survived by his widow; one son, Elmer of Luana; one brother, August of Farmersburg; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Eldo, four sisters and one brother.
