Guttenberg, Ia. -- Special: Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Henry Nuehring, 88, one of Clayton County's oldest residents. He died Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert M. Zapf, following a week's illness.The last rites were conducted from the Zaph home to St. Paul's United Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock. Burial was in the City Cemetery. The Rev. M. J. Harder of Garnaville and the Rev. James Sopko, of Chicago were the officiating clergymen.
Mr. Nuehring was born on a farm in Jefferson Township on Nov. 2, 1850 and spent his entire life in this vicinity. On June 7, 1877 he was married to Miss Julia Redeman at the Rock Church at Ceres. To this union eight children were born.
Since the death of his wife several years ago, Mr. Nuehring made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Zapf.
Surviving are his children: Mrs. Vern Busick of Lima, O., Ernest and Mrs. Albert Zapf, both of Guttenberg; Henry, Albert, Mrs. Tom Flaherty, and Mrs. P. L. Burroway, all of Waterloo; and Mrs. James Sopko of Chicago; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and one brother, John, of Jefferson Township.

87-year old man was one of Clayton County's oldest residents.
Henry Nuehring, one of the oldest residents of Guttenberg and of Clayton County, died Saturday morning in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Zapf, here.
He had been ill about a week.
Mr. Nuehring was 87 years old at the time of his death. He was born Nov. 2, 1850, on a farm in Jefferson township. He lived all his life in this community.
Married at Ceres
He was married on June 7, 1877, to Miss Julia Redeman at the Pioneer Rock Church, Ceres. Mr. Nuehring has lived in the Zapf home since the death of his wife several years ago.
He is survived by three sons, Ernest Nuehring of Guttenburg, and Henry and Albert Nuehring of Waterloo; five daughters, Mrs. Zapf, Mrs. Vern Busick of Lima, Ohio, Mrs. Tom Flaherty and Mrs P. L. Burroway, both of Waterloo, and Mrs. James Sopko of Chicago; one brother, John Nuehring of Jefferson township; eight grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral Monday
Funeral services were held Monday at the Zapf home and at St. Paul's Lutheran church. Officiating were the Rev. M.J. Harder, pastor of St. Paul's and the Rev. James Sopko of Chicago.
