Funeral services for Henry Wagner, 75, were held Monday afternoon, February 22nd at 2:00 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. R.E. Langholz officiating. The body lay in state at the church from 1:00 until the time of services. Burial was in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
Mr. Wagner died Friday, February 19, at the McGregor Hospital. He became seriously ill while visiting relatives in Germany in 1963, and underwent surgery there in November of that year. He was very ill for a time but was able to return to his home in Monona in February 1964. He never regained good health and sought medical help in Iowa City, Dubuque and McGregor.
He was born the son of John Peter and Margaret (nee Schindhelm) Wagner, May 13, 1889, at Kronach, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed of the Lutheran faith and received his education in Germany.
He came to the U.S. in 1911 and worked as a farm hand in Osterdock and National until he acquired his own land near McGregor, where he farmed until he retired to Monona in 1947. On December 14, 1915, he was [unfortunately the clipping ends here]
