Services Monday for James M. Geraghty
Funeral services for James M. Geraghty, 72, a life-time resident of the McGregor area, were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in McGregor, at 9:30 in the morning on Monday, May 1. Father Karl -lein officiated at the Requiem High Mass, and burial was at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The Thornburg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, and the rosary was recited there at 7:00 and 8:00 o'clock on Sunday evening.
Mr. Geraghty suffered a broken hip when he fell in front of his home on March 8. He had been confined to the McGregor Community Hospital since that time, and passed away there on Friday evening, April 28, 1961.
James Mark Geraghty was born April 14, 1889 at the farm home of his paretns, Mr. and Mrs. James Geraghty. He was the eldest of their four children. He attended the rural schools of this vicinity, and helped his parents on their farm near Monona, and later on Pleasant Ridge. He was employed for about a year in Marquette by the Kelly dray business, then returned to work with his father on the farm.
On Jnuary 21, 1920, he was united in marriage with Eulalia Gray at McGregor. At that time his parents left the farm and moved to Monona, and James and his wife moved to the farm on Pleasant Ridge, where they farmed until 1946, when they moved to McGregor. He worked in McGregor at the DX Service Station and at the McGregor Municipal utilities until his retirement two years ago.
He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, The Holy Name Society, and a fifty year member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Eulalia; a sister, Mrs. Ed McAndrew; and a brother John, of Webb, Iowa. His parents and a brother, William J., preceeded him in death. Pall bearers at the funeral services were Raymond Grady, Fred Kass, Al Vick, Norman Scrogum, Enoch Anderson and Leonard Burckart.
