Fred F. Hass Laid to Rest

Fred Frank Hass, 83, passed away on April 29, 1979 enroute by ambulance to the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 2, at 1:30 p.m. in the Garden City United Methodist Church, with Rev. Carroll Brown officiating. He was laid to rest in the Monona City Cemetery. Pallbearers were John F. Wachter, Steven Hass, Rick Hass, Virgil Thompson, Clyde Thompson, and Gaylord Thompson.

Fred Frank Hass was born on October 8, 1895 in Clayton County near Monona, Iowa. He attended the school in Giard Township. He served in World War I, most of the time in Germany. He was united in marriage to Pearl Thompson on October 2, 1919. After their marriage, they settled on a farm in Giard Township. In 1947, they moved to Monona to retire. To this union, three children were born: Margery, Mrs. John L. Wachter of Monona; Harlan, who lives on the home farm near Monona; and Ramon, who lives at Columbus, Indiana. There are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Fred was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church and very faithful in attending. He also served on the Monona School Board and was a Monona school bus driver for several years, a member of the American Legion, and on the Monona Creamery board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lena, and three brothers, Walter, Otto, and Charles.

Fred is survived by his wife, Pearl, a daughter, Mrs. John (Margery) Wachter, two sons, Harlan and Ramon, eight grand-children, four great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Frederick (Alvina) Daugs of Monona.

Mrs. Justus Kammerer was the organist. The Men's Quartet, consisting of Jackson Turner, David Schlitter, Tom James and Kendall Benzing, sang two numbers "Beyond the Sunset" and "How Great Thou Art."
