Rites Held For Mrs. Bugenhagen
Lydia Katerine Louise Bugenhagen, daughter of Charles and Anna Walter Backes, was born April 4, 1900, near Guttenberg, Iowa. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith May 13, 1900, in St. John Lutheran Church, Guttenberg. She received her schooling in the Jefferson township Seeman School, near Guttenberg.
She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the same church in Guttenberg. April 5, 1914. She was married to Edwin Bugenhagen in St. John's Church, Guttenberg, December 19, 1923. The young couple started farming west of Monona, living there for five years; then they moved south of Luana, retiring to Monona in 1962.
Mrs. Bugenhagen was a member of St. John Church, and its ALCW.
She had suffered for some time with heart trouble. She passed away at her home in Monona, December 4, 1965. She attained the age of 65 years, eight months. She leaves to mourn her passing: Her husband, Edwin; two daughters, Arlene, Mrs. John Solomon, Marion, Elaine, Mrs. Roy Merwin, Mt. Vernon; two sons, Edwin, Akron, Ohio, and Erwin, Luana; and nine grandchildren; one sister, Martha Rodenburg, Guttenberg; five brothers: Ervin of Garnavillo, Arnold and Albert of Guttenberg: John of Keystone, and Ernest of Salem, Virginia.
One child, Harlan, and one brother Eldo preceded her in death. She was laid to rest in Lutheran cemetery, Luana.
Funeral services were conducted from St. John Lutheran Church Wednesday afternoon, December 8, with Rev. Luther A. Meyer, officiating.
