Lingering Illness Claims Life of Mrs. Katherine Becker, age 73.

McGregor, Ia., Feb. 4 -- Mrs. Katherine Becker passed away at her home Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. Although she had been in poor health for some years her death came unexpected. She was born in Baden, Germany, Dec. 19, 1842, coming to America in the fall of 1860, making her home in Pittsburgh, Pa. In April 1862, she came to McGregor, which has been her home since.She was united in marriage to Louis Becker at Prairie du Chien, April 21, 1862. To this union were born nine children, of whom five daughters and two sons survive her. The daughters: Mrs. J. B. Kauffman, Mrs. A. Schultz, Mrs. M. Riley, Mrs. J. C. Hileman and Miss Augusta Becker and Fred Becker, all of McGregor and Will Becker, of Dubuque, were able to be in attendance at their mother's funeral. Two sisters and one brother live at Pittsburgh. She has 34 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Becker was a faithful worker in the German Presbyterian Church, her husband helping to build the church in this city some fifty years ago. For many years she has been a sufferer with asthma, uncomplaining to the end of life. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Congregational church at 2 o'clock. Rev. Cutler officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery. Those from out of town in attendence were: Will Becker of Dubuque, Daniel Trumm of Boscobel, Wis., Mrs. D. B. Brown of Elkader, Ia., Mr. Louis Drallmeyer of Farmersburg, Ia., and the Misses Carrie and Viola Kauffman of Dubuque.
