Older members of the Edgewood Methodist Church will learn with regret of the death of a former pastor, the Rev. John Gammons which occured at Cresco the past week. Rev. Gammons retired from the ministry in 1922 after preaching for 40 years. He was born in Dane County, Wisconsin, August 25, 1857. He was granted a license to preach in 1882 and in the fall of 1884 he joined the Upper Iowa Conference. His first appointment was at National in Clayton County. While there he met Miss Carrie Studebaker of Elkport to whom he was married on Sept. 22, 1886. She died in 1914. In 1927 he married Miss Metta McGloughlin of Winnipeg, Canada.
Other churches which he served besides those at National and Edgewood were Ridgeway, Elwood, West Union, Fayette, Cresco New Albin LaPorte City, Toledo, Waukon and Earlville.
