A large number of Edgewood friends attended the funeral services held last Thursday afternoon for Mr. R. M. C. Way in the Christian Church in Greeley, conducted by the Rev. Howard Robison, pastor. Music for the service was sung by C. J. Rulon, D. E. Rhines of Edgewood, and Arthur Hackbarth and George Koenecke of Greeley with Mrs. Elmer Kuhlman, the accompanist. Casket attendants were B. E. ?Hultz, Henry May, Alfred Funk, Howard Holthaus, W. A. Smith and ? A. Robinson. of this place.Burial was made in the Grandview cemetery in Greeley.Richard M. C. Way was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, May 17, 1853, son of the late Elias and Sarah Way. The family moved to Coleburg, Iowa in 1855 and in 1868 Mr. Way began farming between Edgewood and Greeley. On December 31, 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie L. Smith of Greeley. For almost fifty years the Way family has owned the farm one and one-quarter miles south of Edgewood from which Mr. Way retired in 1928. Mrs. Way departed this life on June 20, 1929, since which time Mr. Way has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. R. G. McCarty in Dubuque. One infant son also preceded hime in death.
Mr. Way suffered a stroke a few weeks before his death which occured in Finley Hospital in Dubuque at 7:15 o'clock Tuesday evening, May 20, at the age of 88 years and three days.
Surviving to mourn his death are two daughters and two sons, Mrs. McCarty and Mrs. C.T. Hird of Dubuque, Frank Way of near Greeley and Lee Way of Edgewood. There is also one brother, Charles Way of Redfield, South Dakota, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Edgewood was the business town of Mr. Way. the older residents of this village and the countryside held him and his wife in the highest of esteem. His honor was unquestioned and his life was well spent. A good man had been called from this earth.
