Funeral services were held for Tammy Lynn Christeleit, 17, Sunday, July 25, 1993, at Central Community School gymnasium, Elkader. Rev. Jerome Godson and Rev. Charles Smith officiated the service with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga. Honorary pallbearers were Central high School Softball Team and Coaches - Stacey Eberhardt, Holly Bolsinger, Kim Fitzgerald, Karinda Moser, Molly Stoffel, Denise Weber, Megan Wiley, Julie Berns, Alisha Kurth, Jill Staake, Mary Ann Kuennen, Jessica Olson, Mindy Garms, Marie Moyle, Paul Wender and Robin Madole. Pallbearers were Roderic Kamper, Jon Elvers, Bernard Bergan, Mike Bergan, Joe Bergan, George Leonard, Duan Klink and Francis DeShaw.

Tammy Lynn Christeleit was born July 26, 1975, at the Central Community Hospital in Elkader, the daughter of Dennis and Lorna (Baade) Christeleit of rural Elkader. She died July 21, 1993, as a result of a head-on automobile collision. She was baptized September 28, 1975, and confirmed May 14, 1989, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Volga. On May 30, 1993, she graduated from Central Community High School. She was an active student and excelled in many activities while attending Central which included: 3 year member of the National Honor Society, "Who's Who" American high school students all 4 years, 1992 Upper Iowa All Conference First Team Softball Pitcher and 1993 Second Team All Conference Softball Pitcher. Tammy was a 4 year letter winner in golf and the captain of the 1993 Central girls golf team and member of the 1992 Conference Championship team. Her honors for her 4 year golf season include being 2nd in the conference, runner-up in Sectionals, and runner-up in Regionals. She missed going to state by 1 stroke. As a freshman and a sophomore she was a member on the runner-up Conference Championship team. Tammy, along with John Rhomberg, placed 1st at the Edgewood-Colesburg Co-ed golf tournament May 7, 1993.

Tammy started her freshman year on crutches because of surgery on both feet. She ended her freshman year on crutches because of her knees giving out at softball practice. She persevered through the pain, physical therapy, ice bags and treatments to play basketball, golf and softball. In her 4th grade year she began to participate in instrumental music by playing the trumpet and the last 2 years of high school she also played the euphonium. She received many #1 ratings for solos and ensembles performed at the State Music contests. Tammy was selected to play in the Honor Band at Oelwein December 5, 1992. She auditioned and was selected to play in the 1993 National Honor Band of America at Northwestern University at Chicago, Ill., March 26-27, 1993. Tammy received an Academic Letter all 4 years of high school. She was selected Student of the Week in 1992 for Social Studies and in 1993 for Music. She received a Varsity Letter all 4 years in golf, 3 years in softball, and 1 year in basketball. In October of 1992, she attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D. C. She was also active in the church which included president and treasurer of the Twin Parish Luther League, Vacation Bible School teacher, Sunday School teacher, organist and Sunday School pianist. Tammy was planning to attend Upper Iowa University in Fayette this fall. She was looking forward to playing golf, softball, and participating in music. She had not decided on a major but was going to minor in music.

Survivors include her parents, Dennis and Lorna Christeleit; a sister, Tracy and her husband Craig Follon; her brother, Terry and his wife Jolene; her grandparents, Harold and Norma Christeleit, and Hulda Baade; and her great-grandmother, Alice Andreae. She is also survived by her aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Clarence Baade, and her great-grandparents, William and Rose Christeleit, Oscar Andreae and William Nydegger.
