John Henry Wikan, age 82, of Waukon, formerly of Decorah, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa.

John was born September 6,1928, the son of Halvor Halverson Wikan and Amanda Louise Meisner Wikan at Clayton County, Iowa. John attended country school near Elkader.

He married Margaret "Peggy"Ruth Klutzbach October 28,1948, at St. Johns Lutheran Parsonage at Locust, Iowa, and to this union eight children were born.

John worked construction for Holland Bros and Taylor construction as well as farmed, near Decorah. In his younger days, he played guitar and sang in a band. Johns hobbies included fishing, playing cards, hunting, and his CB radio.

After retirement his CB radio hobby grew into a business, which was known as "Johnies' Communications", Putting radios in school buses in the tri state area.

John was a lifelong member of the Decorah Lutheran Church.

John is survived by his wife Peggy of Waukon, Sons: Ron (Kathy) Wikan, of MacGregor, Ia. and Ed (Lou Ann) Wikan, of Waukon, Iowa. Three daughters: Mary Murphy, of Decorah, Pam (Dale) Jones of Waukon, Charlene Bender, of Prairie Du Chein, WIsconsin, and Daughter-in-law Margie Wikan(Daryl)Moen, Decorah, Iowa, along with eighteen grandchildren: Rob(Jennifer) Wikan, Mendy (Derek) Cheseboro, Amy(Eric) Lensing, Tara(Dan) Stoddard, Gretchen(Chris) Lettau, Eric, Corissa,Amanda,AndAnna Marie Wikan, Chad, Cory, Courtney, and Colin(Jennifer) Wikan; Robert Jones, Brian (Renee) Jones: David, Megan, and Daniel Bender; Sixteen great grandchildren, One Sister-in Law,Ardis Klotzbach of Decorah, as well as many Neices and Nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents Halvor and Amanda, Three sons, Darrell in 1952, David in 1974 and William in 1997;Son-in Law Kim Murphy in 2008; Brothers,Edwin, Robert, Harold and Lawrence Wikan, and Sisters Victoria Stendel,Marie(Mary) Hill, Phyllis Kuehl, and Helen Robinson.
Services were held February 3,2011 at the Decorah Lutheran Church led by Rev. Bryan Robertson, with music provided by Kathy Murray-organist, Cory Wikan and Daniel Bender soloists.

Casketbearers were Rob Wikan, Chad Wikan, Robert Jones, Amy Lensing, David Bender, and Gretchen Wikan (represented by her brother, Eric Wikan).
Interment in Lutheran Cemetery Decorah, Iowa
