Andrew F. Ambrose, 71, of 114 C Butler Ave., died Tuesday, June 26, at Covenant Medical Center. He was born Jan. 23, 1919 in Eyota, Mn., son of John & Frances Fleichman Ambrose. He married Irene E. Lestina on Feb. 14, 1948 in Dubuque.
Mr. Ambrose had been employed by Rath Packing Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1980. He was a U.S. Army veteran in World War II, where he was stationed in Germany.
Survivors include his wife Irene: five sons; Lee of Braham. Mn., David of Golden. Co., Steven & Scott of Waterloo, Andrew of Commerce City, Co.: seven grandchildren: a brother Vincent Ambrose of Monona: and a sister, Mrs. Agnes Schmidt of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Frances Grady, McGregor, Mrs. Esther Bates of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and John Ambrose of Monona.
Services were at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Kelly had the Mass in Father McAndrew's absence. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, with military rites conducted by Becker-Chapman Post No. 1138 American Legion and Waterloo Post No. 1623 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Pall-bearers were Gary Ambros, Denver; Ron Ihlenfeldt, Waterloo; Lawrence Schmidt, Waterloo; and Jim Kacher, Waterloo.
