Victor Joyce Cardin was born July 1, 1922, at Marqueue, Iowa, to parents Nelson and Mable Butterfield Cardin. He graduated from high school and served in the Army during World War II. He married Blanche Smock on June 29, 1946 at Monona, Iowa.
Victor enjoyed hunting and fishing, woodworking and taxidermy work. He served as a medical technician in New Guinea. He worked as a brakeman on the railroad for 20 years and also worked at Effigy Mounds National Monument until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion in Marquette.
Victor died October 2, 1993 in Marquette, Iowa. He is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Prouty of Waukon, Iowa, and Lorna Koecke of Oelwein, Iowa; four granchildren; one sister, Mema Burchart of Soulbyville, California; and one brother, Clayton Cardin of Onalaska, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Blanche, on October 8, 1984; an infant daughter, Joyce Marie; and two brothers, Miles and Harry.
Services were held October 5 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, McGregor, Iowa. Rev. Karl Goodfellow officiated. Casketbearers were: Donnie Gordon, John Hill, Milo Dundee, Marvin Kuehl, Walter Sersland and Charles Davies. Honorary Casketbearers were: Joe Jones, Frank Rodenberg. Bill Tesar and Dennis Hartson. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor, Iowa.
Military Honors by the V.F.W. an the Marquette American Legion. Thornburg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
