John "Jack" Streit, 61, died suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday, November 10, at the Prairie u Chien Memorial Hospital.
He and his wife, Dee, lived at 504 South Marquette Road, Prairie du Chien. The couple owned and operated the Red Cedar Inn, McGregor.
Streit was born May 23, 1923, at Clarion to John and Blanche Streit.
He served in the Navy with the Submarine Corp, during World War II. Military honors were accorded by the McGregor American Legion Pocket City Post No. 267 at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 13, at 2 p.m. at the Thornburg Funeral Home in McGregor. Rev. Wayne Wasta officiated with cremation following the services.
Surviving are: his wife, Delores; two sons, John and James, both of Iowa City; three daughters, Julie M. Doeberlin, Roberta L. Garrett, and Sharon Garrett, all of Council Bluffs; two stepsons, Michael First, Brandon, FL, and Mark Tessner, Prairie du Chien; three stepdaughters, Toni Nargang, Plainfield, Dianna Fortney, Chatham, MI, and Pamela Wittner, Leesburg, FL; 23 grandchildren; two great-gandchildren; and, one brother, Robert, Las Vegas.
