Vern Lawrence Thompson, the son of Larry and Minnie Frohwein Thompson was born April 26,1899 in Monona,lowa. He was baptized in the Monona Congregational Church. Vern received his education in the rural public school. He spent his entire life farming in the Monona area until he retired. Vern was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. He died Saturday, May 30, 1987 at the Central Community Hospital, Elkader. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Archie, Dougald, and Kermit and three sisters, Florence, Margaret and Pearl Hass.

Surviving are two brothers,Kenneth of Monona and Dale of Farmersburg, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 1, 1987 at 2:00p.m. Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona with Rev.Marion Bloodworth officiating. Organist was Mrs. Ivon Schultz. Pallbearers were Clyde Thompson, Virgil Thompson, Richard Thompson, LeRoy Thompson, Harlan Hass, and Roger Thompson. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.
