Clifton Voshell was born Sept. 29, 1918, near Arlington, IA, to Ira and Alice (Cummings) Voshell. He was raised and educated in the area, attending Voshell School and Wadena High School.

He was united in marriage to Hazel May Adams on June 17, 1936, at West Union. Eight children were born to this union. Clifton farmed in Arlington until moving to McGregor in 1955. He farmed there until 1969 when he moved to Ferryville, WI. After farming there for three years he retired, moving back to McGregor. He also worked for a time doing custodial work at Martin Luther Prep School at Prairie du Chien, and as sexton at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor.

After a brief illness, Clifton died Monday afternoon, Dec. 12, 1988, at the Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, WI.

Survivors include a son, Ira, of Strawberry Point; five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Violet) Aska of Colorado Springs, CO, Mrs. Wayne (Carol) Thomas of McGregor, Mrs. Robert (Lois) Trotster of Sherrill, Mrs. Michael (Dixie) Riley of Dubuque, and Mrs. Bruce (Josephine) Kann of Denver, CO; 27 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by His wife on Nov. 2, 1987; a son, Sidney; a daughter, Genevieve Hjelmberg; his parents; and seven sisters, Vira Ewing, Gladys Frieden, Bessie Hofer, Hazel Lamphier, Leta Crane, Hilda Voshell and Ruth Voshell.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 15, 1988, at 11 a.m. at the Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader, with Rev. Kay Harding officiating. The organist was Olga Corlett and Moris Corlett was the soloist. Interment was in Taylorville Cemetery, Arlington.

Casket bearers were David Aska, Quinten Kann, Jerry Thomas, Larry Hjelmberg, Loren Hjelmberg, Michael Riley, Terry Thomas, Stanley Thomas, Dwight Hjelmberg, Jeff Hjelmberg and Brian Troester.

Leonard-Witt Funeral Home in Elkader was in charge of arrangements.
