Thompson, Archie Frohwein 1897 - 1974

Funeral services were held for Archie F. Thompson,76, Wednesday, March 27, 1274, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona with Pastor R. D. Ehlers officiating. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Mrs. Geo. Heins provided the organ music and accompanied congregational singing.

Mr. Thompson passed away at the Good Samaritan Home at Postville Sunday, March 24, 1974, at 6:40 p.m. having been in ill health since suffering a stroke on December 20, 1972. He reached the age of 76 years, 6 months, 26 days.

As Archie Frohwein Thompson he was born the son of Larry and Minnie Frohwein Thompson at Monona on August 28, 1897. He received his education in the rural school south of Monona. On Feb. 26. 1919, he was united in marriage to Eltha Augusta Kliefoth at Luana. To this union were born seven children. The couple farmed on the farm south of Monona now owned and operated by their son, LeRoy.

Mr. Thompson took an active interest in his community and served in many ways. He was elected a township trustee for Monona Township. He served as director and president of the rural school district. He also served a a board member when the Monona schools reorganized and was serving as president of the City Cemetery Assoc. at the time of his illness. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served on the church council and with other committees. He retire from active farming in 1960 and moved to Monona where he live until he became ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife on October, 31, 1944, his parents, two sisters, one brother. and one grandchild who died in infancy.

Surviving are three daughters and four sons: Mrs. Jim (Irma) Gunderson, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Avery (Aletha) Bollman, Waverly; Mrs. Merle (Dorothy) Miller Des Moines; Gerald, Pasaden Calif.; Verdean, Muscatine; Le Roy and Gaylord of Monona; one sister. Mrs. Fred (Pearl) Hass, Monona; four brothers, Vern, Kenneth and Dugald, all of Monona, and Dale of Farmersburg; sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were nephews: Harlan Hass, Dennis Grove, John Wachter, Clyde, Virgil, Richard, Roger and Leo Thompson.
