Irvin L. Becker, retired farmer of Giard, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1987, at the Elkader Community Hospital. He was born Dec. 22, 1907, to Fred L. and Lenora Hagensick Becker at McGregor. He received his education at Giard Twp. No. 6, and graduated from Monona High School in 1927. He married Johanna Hartke Feb. 22, 1934, at the Giard Methodist Church parsonage.

Irvin farmed with his father and had a cream route for many years, gathering cream from neighbors and delivering it to the Farmers Creamery in McGregor.

Irvin was a member of Bezer Masonic Lodge No. 135 AF & AM, Farm Bureau, Giard Methodist Church, and served as a director of the McGregor Creamery and of the Giard school.

Survivors include his wife Johanna; one daughter, Mrs. Dean (Kathryn) Starkey of Marquette; three sons, Richard, Paul and William of rural McGregor; two grandchildren; four step-grand-children; one great-step-grand-daughter; one sister, Marie Becker and one brother, Frederick Becker, both of rural McGregor.

Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. at Giard Methodist Church with Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor. Masonic Lodge services were conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Pallbearers were Roger Witter, Francis Forst, Bob Meyer, Albert Erickson, Clarence Bernhard and Richard Harris. Thornburg Funeral Home, McGregor, was in charge of arrangements.
