Funeral services for Marie E. Nichols of rural McGregor were held November 28, 1984, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Gregor. Father Justin Kane officiated. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Giard Cemetery. Casket bearers were: Fred Tangeman, Ralph Welch, Wayne Mielke, Norbert Dettman, William Staley, and Marvin Miller.

Marie Eileen Schaefer, daughter of Edward and Anna (Licht) Schaefer was born May 7, 1906, in Clayton County, near Monona. She passed away November 25, 1984, after a lingering illness at the home of her daughter and husband, Shirley and Reynold Kann of Giard.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Guild, and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was educated in the rural schools of Giard Township Clayton County, and Linton Township, Allamakee County.

Marie was a loving mother and grandmother, devoting most of her time to her family. She dearly loved people.

On February 21, 1925, she was married to Algie L. Nichols at St. Mary's Church in McGregor. To this union one daughter, Shirley, was born.
She and her husband farmed the Nichols Century Farm until 1956, when they retired. In 1959 they moved to Giard.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother who died in infancy. Surviving is one daughter, Shirley and husband, Reynold Kann; four grandchildren, Bruce Kann and wife Jo, of Story City; Todd Kann and wife Sally of McGregor; Twila Dettman and husband Owen of McGregor; Lynn Palas and husband Jerel of Farmersburg; seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Earl (Helen) Melcher of Monona; nieces and nephews.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
