Ellenbolt, Thomas Retus 1907 - 1987

Thomas Retus Ellenbolt was born April 22, 1907, near McGregor, IA, to Peter and Emma Papacek Ellenbolt. Tom attended schools in the McGregor and Marquette area. He was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona.

On Sept. 21, 1932, he was united in marriage to Ruth Emma Lena Hertrampf at Waukon. To this union two daughters were born, Beverly (Mrs. Gene Nevermann) and Dixie (Mary Gary Palmer).

In the 1930s Tom worked with the C.C.C. as a foreman, building dams in the McGregor area. He lived and farmed most of his life in the Monona-McGregor area. He also raised registered American Eskimo and Pomeranian dogs which he sold to individuals and kennels.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother George, and his wife Ruth. Tom died May 28, 1987, at the Prairie Living Center where he made his home for the past two years.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Gene Nevermann, and Dixie and Gary Palmer; two grandchildren, Melanie Nevermann and Darrin Palmer, all of Monona; three sisters, Bessie Peterson and Mrs. Earl (Helen) Pettit of McGregor and Mrs. Miles (Harriet) Cardin of Marquette.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona with Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiating. Mrs. Ivon Schultz was the organist and Melanie Nevermann the soloist.

Pallbearers were LeRoy Ellenbolt, Todd Kann, Curt Welch, Richard Pettit, Gene Pettit, Raymond Ellenbolt Jr. and Donald Tayek. Interment was in Monona city Cemetery with Schultz's Funeral Home in charge.
