Henry Groth, born Nov. 18, 1866. His home for the greater part of his life was at Monona, and Sumner, living with his relatives. During the
last 16 years he lived with his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heyl [Lucy], seven miles south of Alester, S.D. He was baptised
at Clayton Center, Iowa, confirmed in Monona, and a member of the E. Luth. Church. He was known for his cheerful quiet disposition, the
fruit of his confidence the Saviour had loved him with an everlasting love, and therefore, some time, would be drawn to him with loving
kindness. And now the lines are fallen to him in pleasant places, he has a good heritage. After a period of lingering he quietly fell
asleep in Jesus, May 12, at 7 p.m. at the age of 68 years, 5 mo. and 24 days. Those that mourn his departure are six sisters and a number
of other relatives. Mrs. Minnie Reynold, Dubuque, Iowa; Mrs. Albert Barthenay [Clara], LeRoy, Minn.; Mrs. Henry Heyl [Lucy], Alcester, S.D.; Mrs. Mary Voores, Sumner, Iowa; Mrs. Ed. Hilton [Emma], Hudson, S.D.; Mrs. Ed. Heyl [Ella], Laurel, Nebr. Brief funeral service was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heyl on
Wed. at 1 o'clock p.m. by Rev. Senne, and in Monona Lutheran church on Thursday afternoon, May 16. Rev. Daugs officiating. Burial in
Lutheran cemetery. May 23, 1929.

~note: Henry Groth was born Henry Johann Karl Gebert, son of Caroline (Winterfield) Gebert. His mother later married John Groth & he took the surname Groth for the remainer of his life. It is not known if he was 'formally' adopted by John Groth.
