Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Mary Margaret Kiesau, age 86, were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. Interment was in the Monona City Cemetery, in Monona, Iowa.
Mary Margaret, daughter of Elba and Nellie (Land) Nagel, was born November 9, 1918 in Monona, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. On November 24, 1936 Mary was united in marriage to Paul Kiesau. They later divorced. In 1939, Mary moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she worked in the food service area for over sixty years. In late 2000, Mary moved back to Monona, Iowa where she soon had many friends and enjoyed her time here. She was very active with the senior citizens of the area and rode the NE Iowa transit van as often as possible. Mary's hobbies were baking, crocheting, collecting recipes, telephone visits with friends, activities, and playing Bingo at The Glen. She especially enjoyed time spent with her great-grandchildren. In 2004, when her health began to fail, she moved to the Grand Meadow Glen in Postville, Iowa.
The last few days of her life were spent in the hospice room at the Postville Good Samaritan Center. Mary Margaret Kiesau died Saturday, January 8, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, William in infancy, and two brothers, Francis Nagel and Donald Nagel.
Mary is survived by her 3 sons, Robert (Betty) Kiesau of Monona, Iowa, Robert M. Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Mark (Jill) Smith, also of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 3 grandchildren, Bill (Crystal) Kiesau of Walker, Iowa, Barbara (Steven) Friederich of Postville, Iowa, and Brad (Pam) Kiesau of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; 4 great-grandchildren, Corby Friederich, Troy Friederich, Colton Kiesau, and Morgan Kiesau; and a sister-in-law, Melva Nagel of Monona, Iowa.
