Mrs. R.A. Cahoon

Zelda Jane Denning, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Denning was born on August 27, 1880 in Mendon Township, Clayton County, Iowa, and departed from this life at her home in Mendon Township on Dec. 23, 1932 at the age of 52 years, three months and 26 days.

On December 19, 1900 she was united in marriage, at the home of her parents to Ray Albert Cahoon. To this union were born four children: Mrs. Alpha Knight, Mrs. Wilber Wilkins, Kenneth Cahoon, and Mrs. Fred Schlitter, all of whom survive her.

She was baptized in the M.E. Church, and was one of the organizers of the Pleasant Ridge M.E. Sunday School, and was an interested worker in the Sunday School and Ladies' Aid of that church as long as it existed. She was an uncomplaining industrious woman, neighborly and kind to all who knew her.

Just a year before her death she was stricken with an attack of goitre and for a time her life was feared for, but she recovered, and seemed to be improving constantly, until a few days ago, when she was preparing for Christmas for the children and grandchildren, and was again stricken, this time with a heart attack, and died on December 23rd.

There remains to mourn her passing, beside the husband and children mentioned above, her aged mother, Mrs. James Denning, three brothers, Orin, Charles and Leonard of Mendon township, and a sister, Mrs. Amanda Knapp; also nine nephews and nieces, nine grandchildren, and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at her home on Monday afternoon, December 26, 1932 at two o'clock, by the Rev. Louis H. Joslin, pastor of the First Methodist church, Monona, Iowa. Interment was made in Council Hill cemetery.
