Services Held For Mrs. Amanda Crannell
Mrs. Amanda Carlson-Crannell was born in the province of Smoland, Sweden, on June 1, 1879. She was the oldest of two daughters and two sons born to Mr. & Mrs. Sven John & Christina Carlson. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church of Sweden in infancy and confirmed at the Swedish Highlanda Lutheran Church near Langford, South Dakota. She was a member of the Highlanda Lutheran Church and served as their organist for many years. She was an active member there until she came to make her home with her daughter and family in 1947 and she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Monona at the time of her death.
At the age of 9, in the year 1888, she came to the United States with her parents and sister and brother. The family took a homestead in the territory of South Dakota near the town of Langford where she spent the greater portion of her life.
On May 31, 1904 she was united in marriage with Roscoe George Crannell at Ottonville, Minnesota. A son, Forrest, and a daughter, Grace, were born to their union.
After she had fallen and fractured her arm and had been hospitalized she was admitted to the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point in January of 1971, where she was called to her final rest on Sunday afternoon, August 13 around 4 p.m.
Her husband preceded her in death on August 12, 1940. Her parents, a brother, Carl, and a sister, Emma, also preceded her in death many years ago.
She is survived by her brother, John Carlson, of Langford, South Dakota, her son, Forrest, of Manteca, California, her daughter, Grace, Mrs. Fred F. Darnauer of Monona, Iowa, 7 grandchild and 23 great grandchildren, a nephew and two nieces, of Langford.
She attained the age of 93 years, 1 month and 13 day.
Burial was by the side of her husband at Langford, South Dakota.
Services were held at the Schultz Funeral Home, Tuesday morning, August 15, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Langholz in charge and Julie Scheffert singing several hymns. Services were also held at Langford, S. Dakota on Wed., August 16.Postville, Iowa newspaper of the time clipping, hand dated 1972, from Dorothy Schave's obituary collection.
