Mrs. Corlett Services Held

Funeral services for Mrs. Hale Corlett Sr., 84, of Farmersburg were held Friday afternoon, Sept. 6, at 2 o'clock at St. John Lutheran church in Farmersburg with Rev. R. H. Steege officiating.

The body lay in state at the church from 1 o'clock in the afternoon until the time of the funeral services. Burial was in the Giard cemetery.

She died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 3, at about 5 o'clock, being bedfast about two weeks before her death.

As Emma, she was born the daughter of Gerhardt and Mary, nee Weigman, Kaiser, Dec. 25, 1883, near Garnavillo. She grew up and received her education in the Garnavillo community.

She was married to Hale Corlett, Jan. 11, 1911, at the parsonage of St. Peter Lutheran church in Garnavillo. After their marriage they began to farm on the farm where Eugene Miller now lives. Then they moved to the farm where LuVerne Krambeer now lives. In 1920 they moved to the present Corlett farm, where they continued to live until 1946 when they moved to their home in Farmersburg.

Mr. Corlett died Jan. 21, 1959. Except for some of the winter months when she went to live with her daughter, Kathryn, in Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Corlett continued to live in her home at Farmersburg.

In June, 1966, she submitted to major surgery at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids. The surgery was successful, and she was again able to return to her home and enjoy her family and friends. During the first part of July of this year, she realized that she was no longer able to live by herself.

For a while she lived with her son, Robert, in Farmersburg and then went to live with her son, Earle, in Castalia.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, and four brothers, Henry, William, Eldo and Louis Kaiser.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Martin (Kathryn) Kacena of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Earle of Castalia and Robert and Hale Jr. of Farmersburg; one brother, Edward C. Kaiser of Waterloo; and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Orval Tielbar, Orlando Fascher, J.J. Mathews, Arno Henning, Lloyd Amundson St., and Bruce Little.
