Hale Corlett, Jr.

Hale Corlett, Jr., son of Alfred Hale and Emma (Kaiser) Corlett, was born April 18, 1917 in Farmersburg Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He died Thursday, March 17, 1994 at Central Community Hospital, Elkader. He was 76 years old.

He was baptized at Garnavillo, and confirmed July 7, 1935 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Farmersburg. He received his education at Farmersburg School.

On Sept. 17, 1949 he married Marjorie Nell Knudson at St. Olaf, Iowa. He served in the army in the Pacific area during World War II. He farmed near Farmersburg with his brother, Robert, retiring in 1981. At that time they moved to town. Hale was a crop claims adjuster for Grinnell Mutual for a number of years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and sports. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and the American Legion, Post #388 of St. Olaf.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Earl and Robert. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; a son, Richard of Farmersburg; a daughter, Carleen Dlask of Perry, Mich.; four grandchildren, Bradley and David Corlett of Farmersburg, and Shannon and Kelly Dlask of Perry, Mich.; a sister, Kathryn Kacena of Cedar Rapids; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, 1994 at 11 a. m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, the Rev. Bruce Hanson officiating. Pallbearers were members of the American Legion Post #388 of St. Olaf. Burial was in the Giard Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services. Military rites were accorded by American Legion Post #388 of St. Olaf.
