Gottfried Frieden, aged 56, died at his home a short distance south of Elgin on Tuesday evening, June 13, at about ten o'clock. His health had been failing for nearly six months the last two of which he had been confined to bed. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Apostolic church southeast of Elgin. If road conditions are favorable short services will first be held at the home.

Gottfried Frieden was born July 27, 1882, in Canton Bern, Switzerland, and passed away June 13, 1939, at his home near Elgin, at the age of fifty-six years, eleven months and seventeen days. When he was eleven years old he came to this country with his parents who settled near Elgin, where he has lived ever since. On July 13, 1908, he was united in marriage to Fanny M. Benninger. Six children were born to them. One son died in infancy and one daughter, Marie, preceded him in death March 21, 1936. The surviving children are, Sam, of La Grange, Mo., Harry of Volga City, and Ida and Edwin, of Elgin. Also surviving are the widow, three grandchildren, Alice, Allen and Beverly Frieden, one brother, Jake Frieden, of near West Union, one sister, Mrs. Emma Mackey, of Fayette and several nieces and nephews besides other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Apostolic church east of town. The services were conducted by Rev. Joe Banwart and Rev. Paul Banwart, of West Bend, and Rev. Jacob Gehring of Elgin. Burial was made in the Apostolic cemetery.

Hanson and Janice, of La Grange, Mo.; Mrs. George Hoerr, Mrs. John Hoerr and Irene, of Taylor, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Dan Banwart, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Banwart, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Keheller and daughters Edna and Anna, Ruth and Dorothy Benninger, Mrs. Chas. Anliker, Mr. and Mrs. Ern Frieden, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Banwart, Mrs. Wertz of West Bend, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Voshell, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Voshell of Arlinton, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Eglie and family of Volga City, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Frieden, Mrs. Clara Brabham, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Elvers, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Hanson and family of near Elkader.
