LANTZ, MEYER, FRIEDEN, WAGGONER DAUN, KNUDTSON

Joel Lantz, son of Christian and Sophie Meyer Lantz, was born in Clayton county, Iowa, November 7, 1852, and died at the home of his son, John Lantz, in Elgin, on Wednesday, November 10, 1937, aged eighty-five years and three days. He had been in poor health for about a year but during the last ten days was confined to his bed at his son's home.

His entire life had been spent in Clayton county where he received his schooling and began farming. It was here that on october 13, 1877, he was united in marriage with Elisa Frieden. To this union there were born three children, William, John and Celia. The latter passed away, Jan. 27, 1919. His wife preceded him in death in 1903, and since that time he has made his home with his sons, John and William. Besides these two sons he is survived by the following half brothers: John, Gideon, Henry, Abner, Jake, Simon and Sam Lantz, all living in or near Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was a faithful member of the Apostolic church and it was in this church that the funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 14. Joe Banwart of West Bend, and Jacob Gehring conducted the services and burial was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

He will be remembered as a kind neighbor and faithful friend by all who knew him.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Rose Waggoner and Elmer Lantz of Fort Wayne, Ind., John Lantz and Mary Daun of Grabill, Ind., Charles and Ernest Frieden of West Bend, Mr. and Mrs. O.T. [or G.T.] Knudtson of Millville, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lantz of Postville, Mr. and Mrs. Maynerd Lantz and family of Osage, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Meyer of West Union.

We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the neighbors and friends who assisted in any way during the illness and death of our father, Joel Lantz. The floral offerings and your kind deeds were a great help in our time of sorrow.
